Cyril D. “Zeke” DesRocher
February 25, 1935–February 28, 2024
Cyril D. “Zeke” DesRocher, age 89 of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at Benedictine Manor in La Crosse, Wisc.
He was born in Prairie du Chien on Feb. 25, 1935, the son of Filbert and Marie (DuCharme) DesRocher. After high school he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army stationed in Alaska during the Korean War performing communication duties.
Following his service, Zeke attended the UW-Platteville graduating with a teaching degree. He began his teaching career in Sun Prairie and also bar tended at Ishnala in the Wisconsin Dells during the summer months. He returned to Prairie du Chien and taught at both the high school and junior high.
He met his true love Ginger Jeffers and they were married in September 1965. After an additional teaching and coaching career at Campion Jesuit High School the couple took over Ginger’s family supper club Jeffers Black Angus until their retirement in 2007.
Zeke was an accomplished coach of football, basketball, and baseball. He also officiated over the same sports as a referee and umpire. He played softball, was an avid bowler and loved the game of golf.
The day before he passed away, he told his daughters he was proud of these things: to have achieved a wonderful marriage, had two great kids, scored a hole in one, a royal flush playing poker and lived a long and happy life. Well done Little Buddy, well done.
Zeke’s wife of 56 years, Ginger preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2021.
He is survived by his daughters Christie Burkitt and Heather DesRocher; his brother Paul Desrocher; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his “adopted son” Hutchie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law Scott Burkitt; brothers Ken and Don DesRocher; sisters Dorothy Selvera, Rose Ruppert, Marge Wood; and two infant sisters.
A Celebration of Zeke’s Life will be announced at a later date at the Prairie du Chien Country Club, with private inurnment in the Calvary Cemetery.
