January 18, 1958–February 25, 2024

 Cheryl A. Hoecker, age 66 of Prairie du Chien, Wisc., formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Mayo Clinic St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. 

She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Jan. 18, 1958, the daughter of Raymond and Gurine (McKeever) Smith. Cheryl grew up in Homewood, Ill., where she graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School with the class of 1976. She then attended Robert Morris College in Carthage, Ill., where she became a certified medical assistant. 

Cheryl married Chuck Hoecker in Homewood, Ill., on July 15, 1978.  Cheryl and Chuck raised their family in Buffalo, N.Y., the suburbs of Chicago, and Waterloo, Iowa. They most recently moved to Prairie du Chien in 2017 and have owned and operated the Sawmill Saloon since 2019. 

Cheryl enjoyed quilting and visiting with her friends at the Pickett Fence in Prairie du Chien. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Chuck; their children Kristina (Michael) Peckmann, Peter (Billie) Hoecker, and Matthew (Sam) Hoecker; parents Raymond and Gurine Smith; siblings Janet (Kevin Fuchs) Hildebrand and Steven (Beverly) Smith; grandchildren Dillon Hoecker, Reagan, Kyle (Nicki), Austin, and Jake Peckmann; and many nieces and nephews.  

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, March 9 at 3 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien, Pastor Hillary Burns-Kite officiating with private inurnment at a later date in the Waterloo Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
