Looking to enter the postseason with some momentum, the Seneca Royals boys basketball snapped their four game losing streak with a pair of victories over Weston and La Farge.

The Royals welcomed the Weston Silver Eagles to town on Monday, Feb. 19 for the Royals final home game of the regular season. The hosts jumped out to a 44-22 halftime lead and never looked back the rest of the way as they pulled away for a 85-50 victory to snap a four-game losing streak.

Royals head coach Brian Kwasny was happy with his teams performance. “I thought we brought great energy to the game.  I liked the tempo that we played at and the selflessness that we exhibited.”

Four players scored in double figures for Seneca, including Dawson Davidson, who led the team with 21 points and nine assists. Also finishing in double-figures were Gage Wall (15 points), Hunter Hagensick (13 points), and Briar Wall (10 points).

Also getting into the scoring column for the Royals were Reggie George (eight points), Jackson Konichek (seven points), Garret Baker (six points), Kaden Roberts (three points), and Owen Oppriecht (two points). Baker also grabbed four rebounds and dished out five assists. George and Konichek each had five rebounds to lead the team.

The Royals concluded the regular season portion of their schedule three days later when they traveled to La Farge for their final Ridge and Valley Conference game of the season. Unlike the game with Weston, Seneca trailed 32-28 at halftime and most of the second half before a three-pointer by Briar Wall at the buzzer gave the Royals the win. Kwasny responded to the buzzer beater by mentioning how they had been on the other side of it a few times this season. “We lost a few close ones like this game during the season, so it was nice to win one like this. “

Gage Wall scored a team high 17 points, seven assists, and six steals to lead the Royals, while teammates Briar Wall (15 points) and Davidson (14 points) each reached double figures in points. Roundng out the scoring totals for Seneca were Oppriecht (six points), Baker and George (four points), Hagensick (three points), and Konichek (two points).

With the two victories, the Royals finished the regular season with a 10-12 overall record, and a 7-7 mark in the Ridge and Valley Conference. They finished tied for fourth place with the Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets.

Seneca traveled to Hillsboro on Tuesday for a D5 Regional Quarterfinal contest in a battle between the eight and nine seeds.
