Wauzeka-Steuben girls basketball team ends regular season with trio of wins

The Wauzeka-Steuben girls basketball team began its final week of the regular season getting three final non-conference games in before postseason play begins.
On Monday, Feb. 12, the Hornets traveled to Hillsboro to take on the Tigers of the Scenic Bluffs Conference and came away with a 56-55 victory. The Tigers had a 27-24 halftime advantage on the Hornets but W-S used the second half to claim the one point win.
Cameron Hurda was the leading scorer and rebounder for Wauzeka-Steuben with 20 points and nine rebounds during the game. Ally Wall added 11 points and six rebounds, while sister Emma Wall added nine points, four assists, and two rebounds. Rounding out the scoring for the Hornets were Elizabeth Wright (seven points), Isabella Bunders (four points), Macy Mitchell (three points), and Natalie Wright (two points).
The Hornets returned home three nights later to host their second opponent of the week from the Scenic Bluffs Conference in New Lisbon. The hosts built a 33-5 first half advantage and never looked back on their way to earning a 60-32 victory over their visiting Rockets
Wauzeka-Steuben entertained the Viroqua Blackhawks on Saturday afternoon to conclude both the week and the regular season as the Hornets earned a 63-20 win to finish the regular season with an overall record of 21-2.
The Hornets postseason run began on Tuesday night when they welcomed Seneca back to town in a D5 Regional Quarterfinal game with the winner advancing to Friday night’s regional semifinal round.
