Bulldogs win Upper Iowa Conference

The MFL MarMac girls basketball team is the Upper Iowa Conference champion. The Bulldogs clinched the title—their fourth in six seasons—with wins over Clayton Ridge and South Winneshiek last week. They finished the conference schedule 14-2, a game ahead of Kee and Central.
MFL MarMac shot over 51 percent from the field and knocked down six of 10 three-point attempts in a 59-19 drubbing of Clayton Ridge on Jan. 30.
The Eagles turned the ball over 33 times and made just seven shots from the field all night, including only four points in the second half.
Hannah Bogdonovich hit eight of 10 shots and was a perfect 3-3 from long range for 19 Bulldog points. She added a pair of assists, two steals and a rebound. Ava Kishman chipped in 10 points and five rebounds, followed by seven points from Kaitlin Picha. The senior also had three each in the rebounds, assists and steals columns. Autumn Shaw tallied six points, five rebounds and two steals.
MFL MarMac continued to shoot well—at 42.6 percent—in a 53-34 victory over South Winn on Feb. 2, while out-rebounding the Warriors 38-25.
South Winn made just 23.4 percent of its shots and failed to convert 10 of 19 free throw attempts.
Bogdonovich continued to lead the Bulldogs with 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Shaw totaled 13 points, four rebounds and a block, while Picha had 10 points, five assists and a pair of steals and rebounds. Kishman earned five points and two steals and led MFL MarMac with 10 rebounds.
The Bulldogs are 14-6 overall and closed out the regular season this week, in a non-conference match-up at Crestwood on Feb. 5. They will host 11-9 Sumner-Fredericksburg in Class 2A regional action on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The game will start at 7 p.m.
