The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornet boys basketball team continued non-conference play last week with two games that were both ironically against teams with the  nickname Comets. In case you were wondering, there are just five high schools in Wisconsin that have Comets as their nickname (those two schools plus Albany, Cameron, and Waupaca).

The Hornet boys welcomed Cassville to town on Tuesday, January 2. After taking a 26-16 lead into halftime on the visitors, the Hornets had to hold off a second half rally by the Cassville Comets to earn a 58-50 victory.

Wauzeka-Steuben then traveled to Waunakee High School on Saturday, Jan. 6 to take on the Delavan-Darien Comets in the Swingfam Showcase.

Delavan-Darien took a 33-21 lead into halftime before extending it during the second half to earn a 69-44 victory. The D-D Comets improved their overall record to 5-7 while the Hornets fell to 4-6.

Wauzeka-Steuben  will return to conference play this week with a game at Kickapoo on Friday, Jan. 12. The home game with Weston originally scheduled for Jan. 9 has been rescheduled for Friday, Jan. 19.
