Samuel “Sam” Richard Wiskus, 77, of Colesburg passed away on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Guttenberg.

Celebration of life will be 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Colesburg Library Community Room.

Inurnment will be at Hansel Cemetery in rural Garber.

Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood assisted the family.

He was born on June 30, 1946, the son of Clarence and LaVota (Elledge) Wiskus. Sam was raised in the area and graduated from Edgewood-Colesburg High School in 1964.

Sam married Diane (Funk) Forsythe on Oct. 16, 1999. Over the years Sam worked at John Deere in Dubuque, logged with his brother, Frayne, and at EIP in Earlville. Sam’s favorite pastimes were playing cards, gambling, and watching TV. 

Survivors include his wife, Diane Wiskus of Colesburg; his three children, Rick Wiskus of Fort Dodge, Lisa Walton of Cedar Rapids, and Gary (Amilia) Wiskus of West Union; his four stepchildren, Ronda (Scott) Schroeder of Greeley, John (Melissa) Forsythe of Greeley, Rose (Pat) Powers of Manchester, and Derrick (Jennifer) Forsythe of Marion, and many friends.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frayne Wiskus and his nephew, Frayne Wiskus, Jr.
