Jeffrey T. Portwine, 64, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. at the Garity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call on Friday, Dec. 1, from 4-7 p.m. and also at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Private inurnment will be held at a later date in the Garnavillo City Cemetery in Garnavillo.

Jeff was born in Prairie du Chien on Dec. 18, 1958, the son of Donald and Emma Jean (Beckett) Portwine. Jeffrey grew up in Garnavillo with his family before later moving to Prairie du Chien. Jeffrey met Judy Geick over the phone. He later decided to make March 25 their anniversary date. They remained together for the next 40 years. He worked numerous jobs over the years, most recently drove truck for Design Homes in Prairie du Chien, where he worked for over 30 years. Jeff and Judy enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling together, making trips to Sturgis, S.D., Hawaii, and Las Vegas, Nev. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, truck pulls, demolition derbies, riding his Harley, and socializing with friends. Jeff was also an original member of ABATE of Wisconsin.

Jeffrey is survived by his partner of 40 years, Judy Geick; his siblings Daniel (Gail) Portwine, Julia Coughlin, Andy Eglseder, and Steven (Lily) Portwine; his stepfather, Serenus Eglseder; his best friend, Steve Sedlmayer; brothers- and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved cats.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Rodney; Judy’s parents, Henry and Betty Geick and some of his beloved cats.
