After extreme heat caused a couple of cancellations, the Prairie du Chien/River Ridge/Seneca Boys Soccer  team was finally able to start their 2023 season with a road contest at conference rival Richland Center on Thursday, Aug. 31.

The Hornets came away with a 7-2 win over the Blackhawks. Noah Pedretti got the Hawks on the scoreboard with a goal off a penalty kick with 23:26 left in the first half to make the score 2-1 in favor of Richland Center. Pedretti added a 2nd goal a little bit later in the first half, scoring with 14:38 left in the half to once again get the Hawks within a goal at 3-2. However, the Hornets would add one more first half goal to take a 4-2 lead into halftime before they added three more goals in the second half to round out the scoring.

Next up for the Blackhawks was another road conference match as they traveled to River Valley on Thursday, Sept. 7 with the host Blackhawks pulling out a 5-4 victory late in the second half only minutes after Prairie had tied the match up at 4-4. Pedretti added two goals in the loss, while Garrett DeHart and Jackson Perkins each added a goal for the Hawks.

After falling at home  to Dodgeville/Mineral Point on Tuesday, Sept. 12 by a score of 8-4 (despite a hat trick by Pedretti and a goal by DeHart that was assisted by Adrian Morales), the Hawks traveled to Platteville on Thursday, Sept. 14 to take on Platteville/Lancaster and were unable to get anything going offensively as they  lost 6-0.

The team then returned home on Saturday, Sept. 16 to host La Crosse Logan in a make up match and with the Red Rangers earning the 8-0 non-conference victory.

Despite the 0-5 record so far, the Blackhawks have managed to score 10 goals already after only scoring 11 goals during the entire 2022 season. Senior Noah Pedretti leads the team in scoring with 7 goals with Garrett DeHart (2 goals), and Jackson Perkins (1 goal) rounding out the scoring.

Next up for the Hawks is a home match with Richland Center on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. for parents’ night.
