The MFL MarMac volleyball team dropped to 0-3 last week, after losing a pair of games in an Aug. 28 triangular at Turkey Valley.
The Bulldogs faced a tough opponent in New Hampton in the opening match, losing in straight sets, 25-7 and 25-8. The Chickasaws rattled off 22 kills and also excelled from the service line, hitting 93.3 percent of attempts, including 12 aces.
MFL MarMac recorded no kills or assists in the game and just six digs. Lauryn Johnson snagged three while Mallory Lang, Makayla Morrissey and Kaitlin Picha each had one.
The Bulldogs completed 87.5 percent of their serves. Hannah Bogdonovich was a perfect 4-4 and Morrissey and Ella Corlett made all three of their attempts.
MFL MarMac’s second match-up—against host Turkey Valley—was closer, but resulted in 25-17 and 25-16 set losses. With 10 kills, the Bulldogs were more active at the net. Corlett and Lily Johnson each accounted for three kills and four players—Bogdonovich, Lang, Autumn Shaw and Maddie Keehner—all had one. Lang tallied five of the team’s nine assists, while Morrissey, Corlett and Lily and Lauryn Johnson each earned one.
The defense dug 16 balls, including a team-leading five for Lauryn Johnson. Mindy Keehner picked up three digs, and Bogdonovich, Picha and Lily Johnson had two apiece. Shaw recorded a solo block, while Keehner and Lily Johnson each had block assists.
The Bulldogs upped their serve efficiency to 88.2 percent against the Trojans. Corlett made 10 of 11 attempts and earned half of the team’s four aces. Bogdonovich and Morrissey were each a perfect 6-6, and Morrissey tallied an ace.
MFL MarMac will compete in another triangular Sept. 5, at Maquoketa Valley. The team will have its home opener Sept. 12, against Central.
