Warrior softball players earn all-conference status

Three Central softball players have receive Upper Iowa all-conference honors, including Delaney Scherf, Ashlyn Scherf and Katelyn Scherf. 

 

Senior Delaney Scherf received first team recognition. As an infielder, she started and played in all 23 games, leading the Warriors in hits with 33, including 20 singles, nine doubles and one homerun. She also led the team with a .508 average, while finishing in the lead in slugging with 0.785 and coming in second in on-base percentage at .579. 

 

Delaney was productive at the plate and on the bases, with 21 RBIs, which tied for first, and she scored 22 runs, also tied for the team lead, and stole five bases. As a fielder, Delaney was third among active players in fielding percentage at .922, with 31 putouts and a team leading 40 assists. 

 

Katelyn Scherf was named honorable mention as an infielder and pitcher for the Warriors. The senior started all 23 games, including 16 as pitcher, finishing with a 5-11 record. Katelyn led the team in innings pitched with 96.2 and strikeouts with 37, and she had one save. 

 

As a hitter, Katelyn finished with 14 hits—13 singles and one double—as well as 13 RBIs and a .215 average over 65 at-bats. Among qualifying fielders, she had the highest fielding percentage with a .955, with 29 putouts and 13 assists. 

 

Junior outfielder Ashlyn Scherf also earned honorable mention status. She started all 23 games and finished with 20 hits, including eight singles, eight doubles and a team high four homeruns. Ashlyn walked 13 times, hit .357 and came in second in runs scored with 20. She was tied for the team lead in RBIs with 21. 

 

In the outfield, Ashlyn had a fielding percentage of .889, with 30 putouts and two assists. She even saw time on the mound, appearing in five games and starting two of them. She compiled seven strikeouts in seven innings pitched and had a 1-1 record.
