Six Bulldog baseball players receive UIC honors

Six MFL MarMac baseball players have earned Upper Iowa all-conference recognition. Ben Krambeer was named to the first team and Austin Evanson, Jacob Schellhorn and Jaxon Millage to the second team. Austin Schlee and Bryce Radloff were honorable mention selections.

 

Krambeer was MFL MarMac’s offensive leader his sophomore season, with a .412 on base percentage and .350 batting average over 32 games. Those numbers were a respective third and fourth best in the conference. His 35 hits and 42 total bases were also fourth best in the UIC, and he was second with 25 RBIs. Krambeer also walked 10 times, stole five bases and scored 12 runs.

 

He appeared in nine games as a pitcher, including five starts, covering 28 innings. Krambeer had a record of 3-2, with a 4.25 ERA and .304 opponent batting average. He struck out 24 batters.

 

Defensively, Krambeer spent most time at third base, garnering a .926 fielding percentage, with four errors in 54 chances.

 

Evanson had a breakout season on the mound, pitching in a team-high 12 games and team- and conference-high 64 innings. The senior’s 11 starts were second most in the UIC and his five wins tied him for fourth. Evanson held opponents to a .255 average and had a 2.08 ERA while collecting 29 strikeouts.

 

Schellhorn, a sophomore, aided the Bulldogs offensively, defensively and from the mound over 32 games. His .425 on base percentage was one of the best on the team among regular starters, and he hit .289. That included 28 hits and 20 walks, which was fourth most in the UIC. Schellhorn’s four sacrifice bunts also tied him for fourth most in the conference, and he was among league leading with 20 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

 

On the mound, Schellhorn secured a 6-3 record in 10 appearances, eight of which were starts. His 48.2 innings pitched was fourth most in the UIC, and his six wins tied him for second. He was top 10 in ERA, at 2.30, and held opponents to a .251 average. Schellhorn led the Bulldogs—and was ninth in the UIC—with 39 strikeouts.

 

When he wasn’t pitching, Schellhorn played a stellar shortstop for MFL MarMac, with a .957 fielding percentage. He recorded 48 put outs and had only five errors in 116 chances.

 

Millage, also a sophomore, played in 30 games, starting 26 of them. He hit .315, which was eighth in the UIC, and was top 10 in hits (29) and total bases (38). His eight extra base hits tied him for the most on the team. Additionally, Millage was tied for sixth among UIC players with 21 RBIs, and his 23 runs were 10th most.

 

Schlee was the Bulldog catcher in 31 games this season, putting up numbers that were among the best in the conference. His .983 fielding percentage was sixth best, and he tied for first in runners thrown out stealing. The senior recorded 154 put outs and had just three errors in 179 chances.

 

Offensively, Schlee hit .267 and led the team with a .429 on base percentage. He compiled 16 hits, 11 walks and six hit-by-pitches, along with driving in five runs.

 

A junior infielder, Radloff started 27 of the 29 games in which he appeared. He finished the season with a .389 on base percentage and .241 average after collecting 14 hits, four walks and 10 hit-by-pitches. The latter was tied for second most in the UIC. He also tied for second with five sac bunts. Radloff swiped nine stolen bases, scored 18 runs and knocked in five runs.
