Cynthia “Sindee” Sever, age 74, of McGregor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse, Wis., from complications after surgery.


Sindee was born on Feb. 24, 1949, to Burt and Josephine (Ficek) Cooley in La Salle, Ill.


She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High School in 1966.


She was joined in marriage to William J. Sever on June 21, 1979 in La Salle, Ill., at the First Congregational Church before the Rev. George Hohmann.


Soon afterward, Sindee and her husband moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where they resided for 16 years. She worked for the state of Alaska Department of Transportation as a contract and budget administrator in the roads and highways section.


While in Alaska, the couple went camping, fishing and hiking whenever possible. She always had a vegetable garden and loved to grow flowers. Sindee was an avid reader, wonderful cook and was skilled at crafting wreaths and table centerpieces for others.


After leaving Alaska, they lived in Illinois and Florida before retiring in McGregor in 2008.


Sindee is survived by her husband of 44 years.


She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Cooley, formerly of Portland, Ore.


Frederickson Funeral Home and Crematory in La Crosse, Wis., assisted with arrangements and performed the cremation.


The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Gundersen Hospital, La Crosse, for the compassionate care and support they provided.


A small service will be performed at a later date during inurnment at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle, Ill.
