Gary Lee Glawe, 74, of Cedar Falls, died on Dec. 27, 2022, of complications of Covid-19. He was on the island of Fiji while on a cruise to Australia at the time of his death.

 

Gary was born Sept. 28, 1948, to LeRoy and Ilo (Beck) Glawe at Edgewood. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport. Gary graduated from Edgewood-Colesburg High School in May of 1966. While in school, he was active in FFA and was president of his senior class. He attended Wartburg College for one year, then transferred to Iowa State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1970 and his master’s degree in 1974, both in agricultural education. He taught vocational agriculture at Bennett for two years and five years at Eldora-New Providence. In 1977, he became an investment and commodity broker, working for AG Edwards until 1990. At that time, he started his own brokerage firm, Glawe Investment Services, until his retirement in 2019. 

 

Louise Bancroft became his wife on June 29, 1974. They had two children and divorced in 2001. He married Mary Susan Wurtz on May 30, 2004.

 

Gary loved spending time with family, dancing, sports and playing cards, was an avid coin collector and loved to travel. He visited five continents and over 40 countries.

 

Gary is survived by his wife Susan; his daughter, Katherine (Tom) Lindsay of Minneapolis, Minn.; his son, Jonathan (Rebecca Hunter-Glawe) of Ann Arbor, Mich.; four granddaughters, Maeve Lindsay, Amara, Avery and Adalynn Glawe; and two sisters, Linda (Larry) Friedlein of Farmersburg and Brenda Saunders of Manchester. He is also survived by an uncle and aunt, three nieces, one nephew and 12 cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents and a brother-in-law, Craig Saunders.

 

Visitation will be at the Edgewood Event Center, Edgewood, on Saturday, May 27, from 10 to 11 a.m., with celebration of life service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Littleport.
