The MFL MarMac girls basketball team’s season came to an end last week, in a 62-45 Class 2A - Region 5 loss to Beckman Catholic on Feb. 14.

The Trailblazers led just 11-8 through the first quarter, but increased that margin to seven points, at 26-19, by halftime. In the second half, they opened up a double-digit advantage the Bulldogs couldn’t overcome.

MFL MarMac shot 34 percent from the field, compared to 41.3 from Beckman Catholic, and connected on just four three-point shots. The Trailblazers hit seven.

There was also a disparity from the free throw line, as Beckman hit 17 of 25 attempts, while the Bulldogs took only 17 shots and made nine of them.

MFL MarMac’s leading scorer, senior Grace Anderson, was held to just eight points in the game, but led the team with six rebounds and grabbed two of 10 steals.

Fellow senior Brooklynn Moon topped the stat sheet with 15 points—12 of which came from behind the arc. She also had five rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Senior Ashley Shaw was 3-6 from the field for nine points, and added two rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Junior Kaitlin Picha chipped in six points off the bench and led the Bulldogs with seven assists. She picked up two rebounds and two steals as well.

The Bulldogs finished the season 13-8 overall. They were 11-5—and in fourth place—in the Upper Iowa Conference.
