Donald F. Check, age 73, of Prairie du Chien passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. He was born in Prairie du Chien on January 6, 1950, the son of Arnold and Adeline (Enke) Check. Donald was born and raised in Prairie du Chien on the dairy farm that has been in their family for nearly a century. He attended Irish Ridge Country School before graduating from Prairie du Chien High School with the class of 1968. He then went on to achieve his Master’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse before working as a teacher at Longfellow Middle School, as well as the high school level, both in Lacrosse, WI. After teaching, he returned to the dairy farm where he took great pride in the genetics of his animals, producing some of the finest Holstein cows in the state of Wisconsin. Donald is survived by his brother David Check; his brother-in-law Paul Fisher; his nephews Jarret and Addam Fisher and his niece Stacee Fisher. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Ronald Check and Carolyn Fisher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 10:30 A.M. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 8:30 A.M. until the time of services.
