Teresa Sue Krueger, 60 of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin passed away Wednesday January 25, 2023 at Divine Rehab and Nursing in Fennimore, Wisconsin. She was born to Linda and Albert Schilter in Lancaster, Wisconsin. When Teresa was younger, she had many fond memories of spending most of her time with her Grandma.

During her younger adult years Teresa was a wild, flower child with a free spirit. During those years she had to sons, Shawn and Dustin. During that time she also struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. After years of addiction Teresa made a choice that she loved her kids and family more than her addiction. Teresa sought help and became a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where she learned to live a clean and sober life and help many others on their road to recovery. On January 1, 2023, Teresa celebrated 12 years of continuous sobriety. During her sobriety Teresa also found her way back to church and treasured the return of a loving and trusted relationship with God.

Teresa was very proud of her son’s and all of her grandchildren. She looked so forward to her weekly phone calls and visits she had with her family.

Teresa has worked at several jobs over the years. She worked in a Nursing Home while living in Janesville. Once she moved to Prairie du Chien she worked several years at Prairie Industries and at the Opportunity Center.

Teresa appreciated and loved the friends she made through church, employment, AA and as her health declined the most valued friendships of her caregivers.

After the death of her long-time partner Gerald, Teresa moved in to Rivercrest Apartments where she found her home. Morning were very busy for Teresa. She never missed morning coffee and donuts with Ruth. She always looked forward to Carol coming in before work to visit and spoiling Teresa’s cat Misty with treats. Teresa would also find her next love, Eric while there. Teresa also began writing to pen pals who lived across the whole United States.

At one time Teresa had said while she regrets some of her decisions wile younger, she is thankful for the people those decisions brought into her life. One of the people being Nurse Pam, who was so much more than just a nurse to her and Becky. Becky has been there holding Teresa’s hand every step of the way since they met at the Opportunity Center including up until the end when she took her last breath.

When you think of Teresa, don’t think of her struggles. Remember her strength it took to overcome those struggles. Remember her beautiful smile and heart that she loved those closest to her so deeply with. Let her be your guide to show you that no matter how hard life is or how dark it may seem, there is always a way back to the light. The same light she followed right into the arms of her final resting place.

Teresa is survived by her children, Shawn (Heidi) Lawrence and Dustin Caley; along with many grandchildren; her aunts, nieces and nephews; her partner, Eric Thiede. Plus many friends who became a part of her extended family.
