Evelyn M. Crowley, 80, of Prairie du Chien, WI, formerly of Steuben, WI passed away peacefully Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse, WI surrounded by her children. Evelyn was born on March 9, 1942, in Prairie du Chien, to Ivan and Helen (Ford) DuCharme. She graduated from Seneca High School in 1960. Following high school, she worked at Johnson’s One Stop in Seneca. Evelyn married Patrick Crowley on May 13, 1962, in Seneca, WI. Over the course of their marriage, they were blessed with seven children. Together, until Patrick’s passing, on December 23, 1977, they raised their family in Steuben.
Evelyn was never afraid to try her hand at something if it meant providing for her family. She operated the local grocery store in Steuben. She worked for the village of Steuben as the Village Clerk and was involved in many community events. She also worked as an Avon Representative and Shaklee Distributor. Evelyn worked for the Wauzeka-Steuben School District for 14 years, filling many roles including lunch lady, study hall monitor, and bus driver. She later purchased Hobbi Stitch and operated it with her son, Kevin until her retirement.
Growing up on a farm near Seneca, Evelyn grew fond of the outdoors and nature. She could hunt morel mushrooms and wild asparagus like a champ and was able to name just about any flower or bird. She found beauty in all of nature. She never turned down a game of scrabble or bingo. Evelyn loved to travel and was always willing to share a story of her trip to Ireland with her girls and her extended Alaskan adventure with her forever friend Arnie.
She is survived by her children Kevin, Brian (Suzie), Steve, Kim (Mark) Pankow, Doug (Amy), Elaine (Jeff) Blumreiter, and Mike (Tracy); her siblings Edwin (Marty) DuCharme, Owen (Diane) DuCharme, Alice (Dennis) Kirschbaum, Myrna (Randy) Stevenson, and Donna (Bob) Hamann; her sisters-in-law Janine DuCharme and Barb LaFevre; her grandchildren Austin (Jess) Bendel, Bryce (Katie) Crowley, Alec (Shayla), Morgan, and Connelly Pankow, Rebekah and Sarah Crowley, Ryan Blumreiter, and Nathan Escue, Justin and Colson Crowley; her great-grandchildren Norah and Owen Bendel and Nora Pankow, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick, her parents, her brothers Glen and Neil DuCharme, and her forever friend, Arnie McCullick.
Evelyn had the best giggle and sense of humor. She lived simply and loved large. She was the definition of strength and perseverance who loved her family, friends, and life in general.
