Gwendolyn Marie Barker, 73, of Woodman, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 18, 2022, following a short illness.
Gwen was born on July 11, 1949, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the daughter of Robert Bernard and Helen Ruby (Rennecker) Veach and later moved to Moline, IL, where she attended school. Gwen married Charles (Butch) Alan Barker and they had two children, Scott Alan and Rebecca (Becky) Lynn; the family lived in Moline, IL, Dubuque and St. Catherine’s, IA, and Woodman, WI. Butch preceded her in death on February 11, 2009.
Gwen was a homemaker and worked as a nurses’ aide for many years.
Gwen is survived by her children, Scott (Carrie) of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Becky of Woodman; four grandchildren, Ethan, Garrett (Alisa), Maddie, and Brennan Barker of Cedar Rapids; a great-granddaughter, Adalynn Daye; her brothers, Robert (Cathy) Veach of Moline, IL, and Scott (Melanie) Veach of Harrisburg, SD; sisters-in-law, Ruth Telles of Wilmington, CA, and Kathy Holmes of White Bluff, TN, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Marilyn Sells and Pam Keegan, and nephews, Joshua and Aaron Veach.
A private graveside burial and celebration of life will take place at a later date. According to her wishes, no public visitation will be held.
Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Prairie du Chien, WI, is assisting the family with arrangements.
