Shirley Sue (Pierce) Vogt, 70, completed her life’s journey on Jan. 6, 2023, at the Lutheran UnityPoint Health Hospital in Des Moines following a long, courageous battle with pulmonary lung disease.

Visitation and celebration of life are scheduled for Feb. 11, 12-6 p.m., both at Promiseland Winery, 39053 Great River Road, Guttenberg.

Shirley was born May 9, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, daughter of Gloria (Hernandez) and Wilmer “Bill” Pierce. The family later relocated to Guttenberg where she graduated from Guttenberg Community High School (Pirates) in 1970. While attending high school, she met the love of her life, Thomas “Tom” Clarence Vogt.

Shirley and Tom were married on Veterans Day, 1970, in Fort Jackson, S.C. at a local Army Chapel. They had four wonderful children, Sean, Stephanie, Shannon, and Thomas Jr. and raised them on the Vogt Family Farm.

In addition to making everyone laugh, Shirley enjoyed cooking, baking, collecting magazines, decorating, dancing, shopping, working in her flower gardens, and traveling. She especially enjoyed the memorable trips with Tony and Mona Adams, trips with daughters/daughter-in-law and the many adventures to Florida with Tom.

Shirley worked at Ertl Toy Company, Guttenberg Industries, G & G Living Centers, Doug’s Steakhouse, and owned her own business called East to West Mercantile.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Shirley include her loving and devoted husband, Tom; her four children, Sean Paul Vogt, Stephanie Sue Wolter (Daniel), Shannon Vogt Siegert (Bob), Thomas Clarence Vogt Jr. (Tonya); her treasured four-legged child and best friend (dog), Pal; her adored grandchildren, Chloey, Calista, and Harper Vogt; Brock and Vance Wolter; step-grandchildren, Sarah Siegert, Brad Siegert (Lindsay), and Kelly Feagan (Michael); step-great grandchildren, Makenzi Goddard, Aliani and Isaiah Coleman, and Harper Jayne Siegert; her siblings, Linda Govednik, Scott Pierce, Loretta Steele, and Todd Pierce; her in-laws, Karilyn Smith, Ronnie Kulper, Emily Mueller (Dan), Trudy Vogt, Todd Vogt, Tim Vogt and many nieces and nephews which she adored and cherished like they were her own.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Kathleen and William Vogt; her brother, William “Billy” Pierce; her brother, Robert “Keke” Pierce; her brother-in-law, Luke Smith; and her sister-in-law, Jill Kulper.

The family would like to thank Lutheran UnityPoint Health Hospital nurses and staff for the care given to Shirley.

An expression of sympathy can be sent directly to Tom at 36985 Errthum Road, Guttenberg, Iowa 52052.
