MFL MarMac boys dominate in 2-0 start

Two 40-point victories over Waukon and Kee have the MFL MarMac boys basketball team off to a dominant 2-0 start.

 

The Bulldogs overwhelmed the Indians 73-33 in the Nov. 28 season opener, led by a game-high 21 points from Zach Driscoll. The sophomore hit eight of 18 field goal attempts as well as one of MFL MarMac’s seven three-pointers. He also snagged nine of the team’s whopping 28 steals and had seven rebounds and six assists.

 

Junior Wyatt Powell added 16 points—nine of which came from behind the arc—along with five steals, four assists and two rebounds. Sophomore Parker Kuehl contributed eight points, five rebounds and four steals, while junior Carver Blietz-Bentien totaled seven points, six rebounds, two steals and an assist. 

 

Senior Hunter Meyer had six points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal. Junior Bryce Diehl scored five points off the bench for MFL MarMac and brought down a team-high eight rebounds.

 

The Bulldogs cruised to an 85-43 win at Kee on Dec. 2. They shot over 58 percent from the field and made eight shots from behind the arc, while capitalizing on 28 Hawk turnovers.

 

Driscoll was the team leader in points, assists and steals—with 18, seven and six—and also had four rebounds. Blietz-Bentien was close behind with 17 points, and had three rebounds, three assists and a steal. Powell’s stat line included 16 points, four steals, four assists and two rebounds, while Kuehl tallied 12 points on a 3-5 night from three-point range. He also picked up four steals, three assists and a team-high eight rebounds.

 

MFL MarMac has four games on tap this week, starting with the home opener against Edgewood-Colesburg on Dec. 5 and at Turkey Valley Dec. 6. The Bulldogs will head to Postville Dec. 9, then play Kingsland in a Border Battle game at Decorah High School on Dec. 10.
