Lauretta J. Rod, 97, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022, at the Prairie Maison Care Center.

She was born July 29, 1925, the daughter of Alexander and Magdalena (Kroack) Woods. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School before going to work at the old Prairie City Bank as a teller for many years. She married Joseph Rod on Dec. 29, 1948, and together they raised their family in the Prairie du Chien aarea. Lauretta was active in the local hospital auxiliary and often volunteered her time at St. John’s Catholic Church and the nursing home in Prairie du Chien. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and tending to her flower garden. Lauretta’s husband Joe preceded her in death on July 17, 2011. 

She is survived by her sons, Larry (Denise) Rod and Michael (Charlene) Rod, her daughter Mary Jo Rod; her sister Angie (Bob) Halverson; six grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, nephew Larry Smith with whom she had a very special relationship, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Dorothy Rolph, Arvella Bowlen, and Mary Patterson, daughter in law Terry Rod and a grandson Jason Rod.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held  Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiated, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred that will be distributed to various charities. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisted the family.
