Guttenberg merchants plan open house, Christmas parade

The traditional Christmas open house held by Guttenberg merchants will once again be held on the Saturday following Thanksgiving and will coincide with the national "Small Business Saturday" promotion.
Participating merchants will be offering special sales, refreshments and door prizes that day as they welcome customers shopping for the holidays.
German Christmas Market
400 Block South River Park Drive
The Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce is promoting an outdoor "German Christmas Market" this year in the 400 block of South River Park Drive. A vendor fair is planned where shoppers can find unique gifts for everyone on their list.
Welcome Center
323 S. River Park Dr.
Free activities for youngsters will be offered at the Guttenberg Welcome Center at 323 South River Park Drive. There will be a special station for youngsters to make holiday crafts from 12 noon to 5 p.m.
Don't miss the Grinch meet and greet from 1-3 p.m., and the Santa meet and greet from 2-4:45 p.m.
A hot cocoa bar will be open from 2-4 p.m.
There will also be a "Giving Tree" at the Welcome Center that day for people to donate gifts to those in need.
A coffee truck will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A mobile bar will also be on hand, serving "adult hot chocolate," chocolate peppermint martinis and much more.
Parade
A holiday parade will begin at 5 p.m. in downtown Guttenberg. The Chamber of Commerce is seeking parade entries and will award first, second and third place entries. For more information, or to register a float, visit the Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce on Facebook.
Clayton County SxS Riders have announced plans to take part in the parade and invite others to join them.
The parade route will begin at Clayton Ridge High School, travel south on River Park Drive to Schiller Street, turn west to South First Street, then north to the ending point on Prince Street.
Photo op
A popular attraction from recent years will return —a vintage truck decorated for the holiday season will be parked on River Park Drive, providing an opportunity for the public to use as a prop for photos and selfies from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
