Darlington defeats River Ridge girls
Sixth seeded Darlington defeated host and third seeded River Ridge three games to none in a Division 3 Regional volleyball match on Oct. 20.
Darlington won by scores of 25-22, 27-25 and 25-12.
River Ridge’s season ended with a 23-1 overall record. The Lady Wolves were the Six Rivers West Conference Champions with a record of 12-0.
“Unfortunately, we took an upset when Darlington beat us on Thursday night,” said River Ridge Coach Dianne Langmeier.
The River Ridge Wolves ran out through a banner that read, “No one Fights Alone,” and #ToughlikeTom,” before the match started in support of Coach Dianne Langmeier’s husband who had been diagnosed with brain cancer earlier this week. The stands were also filled with supporters who wore gray in support of brain cancer awareness.
The Wolves played their hearts out and had the lead in the second game, but the Darlington Redbirds were able to turn them back in the second set and dominated in the third set to take the win.
Coach Langmeier would like to thank everyone who came out to support the team and her family. Even the Redbirds presented her a bouquet of flowers before the match.
“It really helps tremendously to have the love and support at a difficult time, and my team, assistant coaches, and this community have outdone themselves!” said Langmeier. “Thank you all! The girls are my inspiration as they never gave up and kept a ‘can do attitude’ all the way to the end of the season. They have a lot to be proud of with a record of 23-1 and being named the Six Rivers West Conference Champs and being undefeated in the regular season, with a record of 12-0. This group of seniors was very special! They will be missed tremendously.”
