Larry Allen Olson, the son of Milton and Donna Mae Olson, was born July 8, 1953. He passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022. He was 69 years old.

Larry graduated from Postville High School in 1971. He married his high school sweetheart Cindy Winters on July 1, 1972, at Frankville Presbyterian Church. To this union two children were born, Heather and Jarrod. Larry and Cindy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer.

Larry’s gruff exterior quickly faded away to those who knew him best. To those who knew him well, he was the kindest, most generous man. His big heart and funny sense of humor brought joy to those in his life. He loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.

Larry was a lifelong dairy and crop farmer. He started farming right out of high school with his father Milton and eventually purchased the family farm from him. He believed strongly in soil conservation and worked hard to preserve the land for future generations.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Carlson; and a brother-in-law, Jim Hutchison.

Surviving are his wife Cindy of Gunder; his children, Heather Scannell (Dan) of Cedar Falls and Jarrod Olson (Kelli) of Waukon; three grandchildren, Anna Grace Scannell and Adalyn and Jase Olson; three brothers, Jerry Olson (Diana) of Ossian, Mick Olson (Mary) of Swisher and Jim Olson (Lynn) of Gunder, two sisters, Connie Olson of Douglas, Alaska, and Donna Flannigan (Ron) of Virginia, Minn.; brother-in-law, Mark Carlson of Anchorage, Alaska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Oct. 20, at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. Funeral service was on Oct. 21, also at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, with Pastor Marshall Hahn as the officiant. Burial followed at Marion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gunder.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville is assisting the family with arrangements.
