Linda Kay Handke, 74, of rural Elkader, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, at the Elkader Care Center.

 

She was born May 3, 1948, on a farm near Bear Creek, Clayton County, Elkport, to Paul and Geraldine (Waterman) Peuker. 

 

Linda graduated from Ed-Co High School. She married Arthur Handke, Jr. on June 18, 1966, at Hope Lutheran Church, rural Littleport. Two children were born to this union. The couple farmed near Motor Mill. She enjoyed working with her husband, cooking meals for her family, reading the newspapers, fishing, bird watching, hunting, gardening, sheep, cattle, dogs, cats, chickens and rabbits, but most of all spending time with her kids and grandkids.

 

Survivors include her children, Paula (Bob Wiedner) Hansel of Elkader and James (Kari) Handke of Dundee; grandchildren, Samantha Hansel of Elgin, Cooper Handke of Dundee and another on the way; brother, Keith Peuker of Edgewood; sister, Margie (Jerry) Harbaugh of Edgewood; niece, Amanda Harbaugh; and two great-nieces, Kassidy Krapfl and Violet Genthe.

 

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 26, 2004; and her brother, Vernon Peuker.

 

Visitation was Oct. 17, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elkader and before the service at the church. Funeral service was on Oct. 18, at Hope Lutheran Church, rural Littleport. Vicar Brittany Barkus officiated. Interment was at East Side Cemetery, Elkader.
