Patricia Rueber Martin of Monona died on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at MercyOne Hospital, Elkader, of cervical cancer. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Monona Cemetery, Monona, with a visitation to follow from 2 to 4 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home, Monona.

 

Pat was born on Nov. 3, 1937, in Oelwein, to Ted and Bernitha Rueber. She received her education at Fremont No. 6, the public school located in Westgate, and Maynard High School, graduating in 1955. She graduated from Upper Iowa University in Fayette in 1958.

 

On Aug. 15, 1958, Pat and Roger Martin of Maynard were married in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate. Two sons were born to the couple, Bill and Jeff. 

 

Pat and Roger lived in Brighton and Fairfield while Roger finished college, after which they lived in Monona, Aplington and Coggon. They returned to Monona in 1977, where they taught until retirement. 

 

Pat was active in professional organizations and community service. She particularly enjoyed being a SHIIP volunteer for nearly 17 years. Leisure-time activities included flower gardening, reading, puzzling, playing cards and walks with her good dog, Sweets.

 

She is survived by her sons, Bill and wife Lois of Vinton, and Jeff and wife Lynn Humphrey of Cupar, Scotland; four grandchildren, Kate Martin and Jane and Eric Gardner, all of Cedar Rapids, Asher Humphrey-Martin of Dunbar, Scotland, and Declan Humphrey-Martin of Cupar; a great-granddaughter, Charlotte Gardner of Cedar Rapids; and a cousin, Jan Mullins of Pinetop, Ariz.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roger, in 2016. 

 

Pat has asked that memorial donations be made to the Monona Butterfly Gardens and Trails, Murphy Helwig Library or the Northeast Iowa Humane Society.

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona is assisting the family with arrangements.
