Ethan A. Koecke, 78 of Prairie du Chien, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, at Garden View Park Place in Monona.

He was born in Prairie du Chien, on Nov. 12, 1943, the son of Eugene and Mary (Steiner) Koecke. He married Joyce Giffing on Nov. 9, 1963, at Bethel Methodist Church in Peach Bottom, PA. Ethan served in the U.S. Army for three years during the Vietnam War. He worked at the 3M Company in Prairie du Chien for 34 years as a maker supervisor until retirement. He was also a member of the Prairie du Chien Fire Department for 13 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, trap shooting and riding his motorcycle. 

Ethan is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years Joyce; his children Paul (Connie), and Carol (Christopher) Lehman; his brothers-in-law Robert (Patricia) and Dale Giffing and sister-in-law Brenda (Jack) Liggins; his grandchildren Jacob Koecke, Zoe (Adam) Sheets, Ella and Boden Koecke; seven nieces and nephews, nine great nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Barbara Ann and Mary Jean Guetzkow, brother-in-law Clarence Guetzkow, sister-in-law Dori Giffing, father-in-law William Giffing, mother-in-law Edna Giffing, and nephew Travis Giffing. 

A Memorial Service will be Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Pastor Hillary Burns-Kite officiating with inurnment in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Military honors will be accorded graveside by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crossing Rivers Hospice in Prairie du Chien. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
