River Ridge gridders blank Highland

Host River Ridge blanked Highland 26-0 in a nonconference high school football game Friday night under threatening skies.
The Timberwolves scored with 6:06 left in the first quarter on a 33-yard pass from Matthew Nies to Braden Crubel. Nies ran in the 2-point conversion and River Ridge led 8-0.
Brandon Davis hit Crubel with a 49-yard touchdown pass at the 10:23 mark of the second quarter as River Ridge increased their advantage to 14-0. The play was a double pass, as Nies passed toward the left sideline to Davis who then found a wide open Crubel down the left side of the field. From there, Crubel outran all defenders for the score.
The Timberwolves scored again with just 17 seconds remaining in the half on a pass from Davis to Crubel for a 6-yard touchdown to make the score 20-0.
Nies had a 2-yard TD run at the 3:51 mark of the third period to give the Timberwolves a 26-0 lead.
There was no score in the final quarter as River Ridge closed out the victory.
Nies completed 9 of 12 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown for a passer rating of 141.7. Davis connected on 2 of 3 passes for 55 yards and 2 TDs for a rating of 149.3.
Matthew Nies rushed 12 times for 18 yards and a TD. Brock Bunge had 5 carries for 9 yards. Crubel had 8 carries for 21 yards. Aidan Gage had 4 carries for 17 yards. Andrew Nies had 12 carries for 54 yards. Ricardo Barrita had 9 carries for 22 yards.
Crubel caught 8 passes for 172 yards and 3 TDs. Gage had 1 reception for 9 yards. Barrita hauled in 2 passes for 16 yards.
Levi Wehrle had 6 tackles for River Ridge. Elliot Thornton recorded a sack. Brody Kielley had 2 tackles. Matthew Nies had 2 tackles. Gage had 2 tackles. Ty Adrian had 3 tackles. Andrew Nies had 3 tackles. Brandon Davis had a tackle. Carter Copsey had a tackle. Anthony Davis had a tackle. Owen Callahan had a tackle.
River Ridge will next travel to Wauzeka on Aug. 26 to take on the Seneca/Wauzeka-Steuben Blue-Golds.
