On July 10, at 4:43 p.m., Grant County sheriff’s deputies responded to a suspicious package located on County Road J near its intersection with County Road A in rural Bloomington. Once the suspicious device was observed, it appeared to be of concern, and the roadway was blocked off to safeguard motorists, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

An Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Unit from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and conducted an analysis of the device. After not being able to identify the device, it was determined by the EOD unit that they would disrupt the device in place. The device was then determined to be a homemade lithium ion battery, the release stated.

Assisting at the scene was Bloomington Fire. The roadway was opened back up just after 10 p.m. Sunday.
