After many years of courageously fighting Parkinson’s, Jackie Eugene Taylor, age 78, peacefully passed away at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab Center in Norwalk, on Jan. 25, 2022.

 

A visitation will be held Saturday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a short celebration of life service at 1:30 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Volga. Burial will immediately follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Volga. Face masks are required.

 

Jack was the son of Thomas and Catherine Taylor. He graduated from Central Community High School in Elkader in 1962. Jack married the love of his life, Georgia Louise Zuercher-Birlew, on Feb. 14, 1993.

 

Jack was a municipal worker by trade, where he worked in Volga City and in West Union he worked for ATWOOD Industries. After moving to Des Moines, he worked as an armed guard for an armored truck company, a carpenter and a farm worker. He was a man of many trades, which he seemed to enjoy. Jack also spent many years volunteering as a fire fighter and first responder in Volga City.

 

He enjoyed living life to the fullest by spending time with his family and doing various activities like hunting, fishing and playing golf.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Eugene, and his mother, Catherine Mae (Berger); his sister Joyce (Taylor) McClintock; his brother, Jerald; his grandparents, aunts, uncles, a niece and numerous other family members.

 

Jack is survived by his wife, Georgia Louise (Zuercher) Taylor; three stepdaughters, Lynnette Louise Bailey, Karma Lee Birlew (Shane Drapeaux) and Andrea Lane Birlew; seven grandchildren, Jerald, Kapriecia, Andrew, Hunter, Catherine, Jonathan and Kamryn; his brother, Howard Tom; and several nieces and nephews. All will continue to honor his memory and legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
