Caydon Lomas of Wauzeka-Steuben takes a lead off of second base as Jared Breuer of River Ridge defends.

Mitchell Colson came through with a 2-out, 2-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Wauzeka-Steuben baseball team to a thrilling 3-2 victory over River Ridge in a regional semi-final on May 26. 

The Hornets improved to 17-5 on the season and advanced in the WIAA playoffs. River Ridge ended its season with a 7-13 overall record.

The Timberwolves got on the board first with a run in the top of the second inning. They scored again in the third to grab a 2-0 lead. 

The Hornets answered in the bottom of the third to pull within 2-1. 

The game remained at 2-1 until Colson’s heroics in the final frame. 

Wauzeka-Steuben scored 3 runs on 5 hits and committed no errors. River Ridge had 2 runs on 8 hits and committed 1 error. 

Jonah Reichmann was 1x2 with 2 runs scored for Wauzeka-Steuben. Caydon Lomas was 2x4 with an RBI. Colson was 1x2 with 2 RBIs. Landon Check was 1x2.

Ian Adrian was 1x4 for River Ridge. Braden Crubel was 1x3 with a run. Logan Drone was 1x2. Copsey was 2x3. Jared Breuer was 2x3 with an RBI. Anthony Davis was 1x2 with an RBI.

Isaac Reichmann earned the pitching victory. He pitched 2 innings, gave up 1 hit, allowed a walk and fanned 2. Caydon Lomas started for the Hornets. He hurled 5 innings, giving up 7 hits and 2 runs while walking 5 and whiffing 4.

Ian Adrian took the loss. He pitched 1.2 innings, gave up 2 hits and 2 runs while walking 3. Logan Drone started for the Timberwolves. He pitched 5 innings, gave up 3 hits and 1 run while walking 3 and striking out 8.
