MFL MarMac boys earn first conference golf title, move on to district meet
The MFL MarMac boys golf team is the Upper Iowa Conference champion for the first time in school history. The Bulldogs battled brutally windy conditions at the May 9 meet at Tri City Golf Course in Luana to earn a combined score of 353—well ahead of the 387 from second-place North Fayette Valley.
All six of MFL MarMac’s golfers placed within the top 15, including freshman Ben Krambeer, who was the medalist at +14 after 18 holes. Sophomore Nick Krambeer’s +20 put him second on the leaderboard, while freshman Quinn McGeough was fourth at +21. Juniors Jonah Wille and Joe Grau were a respective seventh and eighth with scores of +26 and +28, and sophomore Sawyer Keehner’s +35 was good for 15th.
The Bulldogs took that momentum into the May 11 Class 2A Sectionals at Monticello Golf Course, where they achieved third overall, earning the chance to move on to district team play at Mediapolis May 16 (see results next week).
The boys worked their way to third place with their score of 346, which was just one stroke shy of second. Monticello took home that spot, with a team score of 345. First place went to Beckman Catholic with a total of 328.
Individually, Nick Krambeer was the low scorer for the Bulldogs; he tallied +85, to tie for eighth place at the meet. Following closely, Ben Krambeer shot +86 and finished 11th among the 48 golfers. Lining up just behind them were Wille and Grau at +87 and +88 (12th and 15th places), respectively. Rounding out the team, McGeough scored a +93, taking 29th, and Keehner came in at +105, or 44th place overall.
