The Central boys track and field season comes to an end after a 14th place finish at the 1A Qualifying Track Meet on May 12, at Edgewood-Colesburg High School. The Warriors finished the meet with seven points, but three events did earn a medal during the races, including the distance medley, which finished fifth with runners Corey Weber, Sean Wilwert, William Moser, and Gavin Holst. Moser also earned a medal in the 400-meter hurdles with a seventh place finish and Holst got a second one with a fifth place finish in the 800-meter run.
In other races, the Warriors finished in 10th in the 800-sprint medley with Wilwert, Sharpe, Evan Schroeder, and Weber. Sharpe also ran in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 14th, while teammate Brayden Finley finished in 18th. Finley also ran the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 14th. Dan McGreal was the lone entrant in both the 400-meter dash and the long jump, taking home 13th place in the 400, while jumping to 11th. Wilwert finished the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 18.64, which was good enough for 12th place. As Holst was finishing in fifth in the 800-meter run, teammate Jack Scherf crossed the finish line in 12th. Sharpe took another trip around the oval in the 200-meter dash, this time finishing in 15th.
In the throwing events, Ryan Schroeder hit a mark of 101-05 in the discus, which gave him 12th place, while in the shot put, Schroeder finished in 13th with a mark of 37-08.00.
With that, the boys’ track and field season, beset by inclement weather and injuries, comes to an end, unfortunately without any state qualifiers, though not for a lack of effort on the part of the athletes and first year head coach Colten Ledbeter.
