Seneca baseball nipped by Riverdale, beats North Crawford

The Royals’ Ashton Swanson takes a lead off of second base versus the Trojans Monday afternoon in Seneca.

Opener

Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound on Monday, but Riverdale took the victory over host Seneca 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader for the Royals. 

Ashton Swanson started the game for Seneca and recorded nine outs. The righthander lasted three innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking one.

A single by Shawn Kirchhoff in the fourth inning was a positive for the Royals.

Evan Payne took the loss for Seneca. The pitcher allowed one hit and one run over four innings, striking out four and walking one.

Jake Payne and Kirchhoff each managed one hit to lead Seneca.

Riverdale was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.

Nightcap

The Seneca Royals  defeated North Crawford 14-1 on Monday as two pitchers combined in the win.

Seneca secured the victory thanks to 11 runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught by Seneca was led by Dawson Davidson, Evan Payne, Shawn Kirchhoff, Ashton Swanson, Kadin Wallin, and Brock Wall, all driving in runs in the frame.

Seneca got on the board in the first inning when Swanson hit a solo homer.

Wallin took the win for Seneca. The righty lasted three innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out seven. Jake Payne threw two innings in relief.

McClurg took the loss for North Crawford. The hurler allowed eight hits and 12 runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one.

Seneca tallied 13 hits. Hall and Swanson each collected three hits to lead Seneca. The Royals stole six bases during the game as two players stole more than one.
