MFL MarMac girls track and field competes at Crestwood, Kee meets

Jordyn Jones completed a shot put throw of 21 feet, 10.5 inches at Kee, which was good for 10th place.

A rare week of nicer weather allowed the MFL MarMac girls track and field team to compete in two meets last week, one at Crestwood and the other at Kee.
Freshman Maria Stavroplus highlighted the Bulldogs’ efforts at Crestwood on April 19, placing seventh in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 4 inches.
Other field competitors included senior Jordyn Jones, who was 18th in the discus and 22nd in the shot put, and senior Abby Schellhorn, who threw her way to 19th in the discus.
Amelya Weigand led MFL MarMac’s sprint field with a 10th place finish in the 400 meter dash. Melanie Ruff and Stavroplus went 14th and 21st, respectively, in the 100, while Schellhorn was 20th in the 200 and Kaylee Walch 21st.
Schellhorn also crossed the line 11th in the 1500, as the Bulldogs’ lone distance runner.
In the relays, the girls placed highest in the 4x200, with Ava Lindner, Hannah Bogdonovich, Weigand and M. Ruff combining for 10th. The same group turned in an 11th place effort in the 800 sprint medley event. The 1600 distance medley team of Lindner, Bogdonovich, M. Ruff and Walch was 13th, while the 4x400 combo of Weigand, Evelyn Ruff, Lindner and Walch finished 14th.
At the April 21 Kee High Invitational, it was again Stavroplus who claimed the top individual placing for the Bulldogs. She moved up to third in the high jump with the same 4 feet, 4 inches height. E. Ruff finished fourth with a jump of 4 feet, 2 inches.
Jones competed in both the shot put and discus, placing 10th and 12th, respectively. Schellhorn took the 11th spot in the discus, to round out MFL MarMac’s field events.
Among individual runners, Schellhorn crossed the line fifth in the 1500 and Weigand vaulted to sixth in the 400 hurdles. M. Ruff placed eighth in the 100 and Stavroplus was 13th in the 200.
The relays were the most successful events for the Bulldogs, with third place times in both the 4x200 and 4x400. Bogdonovich, Lindner, E. Ruff and M. Ruff made up the 4x200 squad, and Weigand, Walch, Lindner and Schellhorn comprised the 4x400 group.
The team also did well in the 800 sprint medley, as Bogdonovich, Stavroplus, Lindner and M. Ruff finished fourth. It was the same placing for Bogdonovich, M. Ruff, Weigand and Walch in the 1600 distance medley. MFL MarMac’s 4x100 relay was seventh.
The Bulldogs have three meets scheduled this week, starting at Oelwein on April 25 and Clayton Ridge on April 26. They’ll host a home meet in Monona on April 28.
