Myron Eugene Guritz Jr. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at the age of 66. Myron was born in Sumner on Sept. 16, 1955, to Myron Eugene and Ruth Irene (Solomon) Guritz. He attended Sumner Elementary, St. Peter Lutheran School in Westgate and graduated from North Fayette High School in 1974. In 1977, Myron married Renee Wilker and to this union he was blessed with three children, Jason, Rusty and Lacy. They would later divorce. In September 2007, Myron met Mary Wirkler at the Pocket City Pub in McGregor. They were married on Aug. 22, 2009, and were forever known as M&M.

While living in various eastern Iowa towns, Myron also had a variety of jobs, including SMI Pallet Company, H & H, Railroad, Bennett Hardware and finally retiring from Cabelas in October 2020 after 19 years of service. Through the years, he enjoyed lots of outdoor activities, including many, many bass fishing tournaments. He thoroughly loved to be on or near the Mississippi River, and this love continued with Mary as they spent many hours on the river. In addition to his love of the outdoors, he had a love for sports with his favorite teams being the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Myron had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and we will never forget his numerous phrases, including his favorite ones, “Yes Dear,” “I learned ‘em good” and “clumb the ladder.” In his spare time, he loved to read western themed books by the author William Johnstone, play cards with his friends, help others through the group Friends Helping Friends and volunteer for many events at church. More importantly, he loved his children and grandchildren, supporting them in all of their activities.

Myron is survived by his wife, Mary, and dog, Trixie, of McGregor; sons, Jason (Dawn) of Sheffield and Rusty (Laura) of Logan; daughter, Lacy (Jason) Martens of Armstrong; two sisters, Lois (Rick) Shurtleff of Fayette and Irene (Phil) of West Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Mickee (Dillon) Thein, Kacee, Trevor, Macanna, Jazmyn, Abyagail and Tyler Guritz, and lzaac and Carter Martens; in-laws, Cheri (Park) Leachman, Gary (Joanne) Brooks, Harold (Sharon) Brooks, Richard (Kimberly) Brooks, Karen Moose (Jeff Bittner), Connie (Glen) Monroe and Jackie (Denny) McCullick; 15 nieces and nephews; 34 great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Myron is preceded in death by his parents, an aunt and nephews.
