Crossing Rivers Health will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony next week to mark the beginning of a major expansion project to our medical center, adding an 18,000 square foot addition to expand our clinic space. This expansion will also allow for integration of Behavioral Health services into the clinic setting.

Crossing Rivers Health has finalized plans for an expansion project that will add clinic space to its medical building. Construction on the approximately 18,000-square-foot addition to the medical center’s north side will begin this spring and is expected to last a year. The new clinic addition will replace the existing 6,000 square foot clinic building that stands a few hundred feet from the hospital. The new clinic addition will open in the spring of 2023.

In addition to connecting the Crossing Rivers Health Clinic to the rest of Crossing Rivers Health’s medical services, the move reflects growing demand for clinic services. Primary care visits have increased by 25 percent since 2019. The new clinic space will also integrate behavioral health services in the clinic setting, helping patients to not only be physically healthy, but also mentally and emotionally healthy.

“Looking to the future, we needed to envision how integrated care will be delivered,” said Chris Brophy, CEO of Crossing Rivers Health.

Katie Garrity, president of the Crossing Rivers Health Board of Directors, said several factors were considered while deciding to begin this project, citing “benefit to the community, return on investment and need, working to develop and maintain relationships of those we serve.”

Garrity continued, “Service mix, costs, and appropriate initiatives are always primary in any decisions made by the board.”

Patients at Crossing Rivers Health-Prairie du Chien Clinic will experience clinic visits like normal at the existing building as construction proceeds.

“We will continue to provide the highest quality of care with the same amazing team,” said Maria Mathis, Crossing Rivers Health Clinic director. “We are overwhelmed with the support of our community and the organization to be able to expand the Crossing Rivers Health Clinic with the integration of behavioral health.”

Crossing Rivers Health will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 21 at 5 p.m. at the site of the new clinic addition, on the north side of the medical center.
