Fisher third in vault at State Gymnastics Meet
This past weekend, Prairie du Chien sophomore, Madilyn Fisher, traveled to Wisconsin Rapids for her second trip to the WIAA State Meet.
Fisher qualified this year on the vault, balance beam, floor exercise, and in all around.
Fisher started out the meet in round three on the uneven bars. Fisher had a solid routine with a score of 8.267. Bars is Fisher’s weakest event. Fisher competed next on the balance beam. With no falls, a few wobbles, and a missed connection, Fisher scored an 8.667, placing 17th.
At the state level, the scores tend to be lower; the judges are more experienced and tougher on skills and scores.
Fisher next competed on the floor exercise with one of her best performances of the season. With a smile on her face and great landings out of her tumbling passes, Fisher placed 12th with a score of 8.9.
Fisher competed in her strongest event in the last round of the meet, the vault. During the conference meet and at the sectional, Fisher fell on her landings during her performances.
“We knew Madilyn had a chance to place this past weekend if she could stand up her vault landing,” said Coach Alex Udelhofen.
Fisher completed her first vault with one step out of the landing, scoring 9.167 and placing third. This makes Madilyn Fisher the first ninth or 10th-grader in Prairie du Chien gymnastics history to place in the top three at the State Meet in any event!
Congratulations Madi!
