Prairie wrestling team is regional champion
On Saturday, Feb. 12, the WIAA Wrestling Tournament series started in the state of Wisconsin. Prairie du Chien was host for a WIAA Division 2 Regional, with seven teams competing for a crown.
The PDC grapplers showed up to wrestle, and came away with a Regional Championship, making this the fifth consecutive year the Hawks have done so.
PDC scored 237 points on their way to gaining the collective team win. Darlington/Black Hawk finished 2nd with 185 points, followed by River Valley, Belmont/Platteville, Dodgeville, Cuba City/Benton/Southwestern, and Richland Center.
At the end of the day, the Hawks advanced 10 wrestlers to this weekend’s individual sectional, which is the qualifier for the State Tournament. Champions were: Ryder Koenig (126#), Rhett Koenig (132#), Maddox Cejka (152#), Brogan Brewer (170#), and Blake Thiry (195#). Finishing as runners up and also advancing were: Mason Baumgartner (113#), Drew Hird (138#), Luke Kramer (145#), Cole Halverson (160#), and Ty Wagner (182#). In addition, Drake Ingham (120#) finished third, Dylan Wright (285#) finished sixth, and Jack MacEachern (220#) finished 7th.
On Saturday, the Blackhawks will be in Richland Center for individual sectionals with a 10 a.m. start. Go Hawks!
