Blackhawks finish third at Bluejay Challenge

On Saturday, Jan. 8, the Division 2, fourth ranked Prairie du Chien Wrestling Blackhawks traveled far north to the Merrill Bluejay Challenge.
The Challenge is a 20-team scramble. Wrestlers from all schools are seeded and then placed into one of four different pools. Wrestlers’ placement within their pools determines which bracket (1st, 5th, 9th, or 13th place bracket) they advance to in determining their place.
The Blackhawks wrestled competitively, winning 57 matches on the day to 23 losses. Thirty-eight of the wins came with bonus points. The Blackhawks scored 400 points, finishing third to Wausau West (505 points) and St. Croix Central (432 points). The Blackhawks were led by two champions (Rhett Koenig 132# and Jeremiah Avery 152#) and three runnerups (Ryder Koenig 126#, Drew Hird 138#, Maddox Cejka 160#).

Also, as non-scoring varsity competitors, Kurt Wall went 4-1 to finish 5th at 138#. Bryce Lenzendorf went 4-1 to finish 9th at 152#. Austin Vogt picked up a couple of wins to finish 9th at 126# and Jack MacEachern picked up a couple of wins to finish 10th at 182#. Connor Olson also picked up a win in the JV bracket at 113#.
The next action for PDC will be an SWC dual at Belmont/Platteville at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13. On Friday, the Blackhawks travel to Aquinas for a nonconference quadrangular with Aquinas, GET/MM, and Wrightstown. Grappling starts at 5 p.m. Go Blackhawks!
