Walter Eben Lutz gained his angel wings Nov. 22, 2021.

Walter graduated from Central Community School in 1980. He was an avid wrestler throughout junior and high school years. During his senior year at Central Community High School, his most memorable moment was when he made a film in mass media. His advice to underclassmen was, “Do what the teachers tell you and behave yourselves.” Walter was an active member of the FFA and Volga Valley Feeders 4-H.

Walter worked alongside his dad at Lutz Locker from 1992 until closure of the business in 2010. Walter loved going on trail rides with the Whistling Bit Saddle Club. He assisted Rosana in the Lamb’s Place Daycare numerous times and worked for the Elkader Chamber on flag detail, county shop recycle and disposal, Elkader Veterinary Clinic and many other odds and ends jobs. Walter assisted Deb and Roger Schmidt through the purchase of Lutz’s Locker and their shops for the past 11 years.

Walter earned the rank of PFC (private first class) in the U.S. Army from Feb. 5, 1987 to Feb. 4, 1990. Walter worked as a power generator equipment repairer in West Germany with the 85th Maintenance Company.

Walter and Candy Kimpton married Oct. 3, 1992, very brief, at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader.

Walter had many hidden talents that came in handy when someone needed help. He would be the first to jump in and lend a hand.

Walter was preceded in death by Gustav R. Lutz and Louise E. Lutz (parents), and Kimberly Lin Lutz (sister). Walter leaves behind Noodles, his dog and loyal companion, along with his goats, Old Man and Billy Bob.

Survivors include his three brothers, Steve (Donna) Lutz of Mederville, Guttav W. Lutz of Mederville and William (Julia) Lutz of Green Castle, Mo., and one sister, Rosana (Robert) Zamora of Elkader, along with several nephews and nieces. Walter will be missed by many friends, co-workers and relatives.

Burial will be in the Elkader Eastside Cemetery with graveside military services by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Elkader is assisting the family with arrangements.
