Brooke Hansel

Emilie Meyer

The Clayton County Cattleman Banquet will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, at Johnson’s Reception Hall in Elkader, with dinner served at 6 p.m. The program will start at 7 p.m., followed by the auction.

There are two candidates for Beef Queen: Brooke Hansel and Emilie Meyer.

Brooke is the daughter of Nick and Julie Hansel of rural Guttenberg. She is a sophomore at Clayton Ridge High School, where she is active in individual and large group speech, show choir, student senate, musicals, volleyball, basketball, track and field and FFA.

Brooke is employed at Rausch’s Cafe in Guttenberg, where she loves to surround herself in the busy atmosphere of the customers. She is also an active member of the Jefferson Go Hawks 4-H Club, where she has served as social media coordinator, secretary and president. Brooke enjoys working on her family farm and showing cattle at the Clayton County Fair and different open shows around the Midwest.

One of Brooke’s goals is to continue learning more about livestock judging and the genetics involved in creating a successful cow-calf operation. Brooke also has two younger brothers, Reid and Cade, who are active on the family farm.

Brooke’s plans after high school are to attend a four-year college to pursue a nursing degree and eventually become a nurse practitioner. Since agriculture has been a life-long passion, Brooke intends to follow in her parents’ footprints by staying active in encouraging youth interest in the beef industry through 4-H, Clayton County Cattlemen and the Clayton County Fair.

Emilie is the daughter of Eric and Tina Meyer and attends Postville Community Schools. She is involved in FFA, currently serving as vice president, volleyball, softball, girls track manager, ASAP, Student Ambassadors, 4-H with the Monona Jr. Feeders where she is serving as secretary, County Council and St. Paul Lutheran Church Sr. Youth Group. She is also a CNA at The Good Samaritan Society in Postville.

Emilie wants to be Beef Queen because she wants to represent an organization that promotes beef.

“Beef is a part of me and who I am,” she said.
