Monona resident Grant Langhus has initiated a write-in campaign to become the city’s new mayor.

Langhus was born and raised in Monona and attended Iowa State University. He has worked at the Outlook Newspaper, Northeast Iowa Telephone Company and, for the past decade, has managed IT operations at Luana Savings Bank. Langhus is also well known through his past involvement with Boy Scouts and currently serves on the Murphy Helwig Library board.

“I spent several years in Florida after college, where I advanced my IT knowledge but, most importantly, met my wife, Amber, an Ohio native. We have a 3-year old, Ellie, and are thankful for clean, respectful, down-to-earth rural towns like Monona to be able to raise her in,” Langhus said.

Langhus recently took an interest in becoming a larger part of how the city of Monona functions.

“As we already have a great, capable group of individuals on council, I’m asking [people] to write my name in for mayor as that seems the most appropriate way for me to become involved at the moment,” he shared.

“I’m simply interested in how our city operates, and as a resident, want to continue to ensure our tax dollars are spent as our residents wish, in the most efficient way possible. I have no other agenda or aspirations in government,” Langhus added. “If I had to run on a platform, it would be one in which I would do my best to give Monona’s citizens as much power in decision making as possible, ensuring city and council happenings were as transparent and accessible as possible so everyone is always ‘in the loop.’”

The combined city/school election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
