Legendary McGregorites will again be brought to life Saturday, Oct. 30, with the “Ghosts of McGregor’s Past” guided historical walking tour. Guides will lead small groups to six downtown locations to watch actors—who will all be portraying colorful McGregor characters—perform short skits.

The event will be like the one held in McGregor in the fall of 2019, but with all new characters. These include town founder Alexander MacGregor; international pearl dealer W.H.C. Elwell; Vassar’s first female history professor, Lucy Salmon; banker and Iowa governor Sam Merrill; the world’s first female degreed dentist, Lucy Hobbs Taylor; and the Hofer sisters, activists for the kindergarten movement and playgrounds. In the skits, characters will be accompanied by a spouse, sibling or student to help tell the story.

Tours will leave from Triangle Park every 10 minutes from 2 to 4 p.m. Arrive any time. Each tour will last approximately 45 minutes.

“Ghosts of McGregor's Past” is sponsored by the McGregor Historical Museum and McGregor Historic Preservation Commission. Attendance is free, but donations are appreciated, and will go toward preserving McGregor history.
