After a long cross-country season, Central will send two runners, Hannah Asche and Jaydin Dettman, to the state meet.

In the Cascade district field that included 53 runners, Asche finished sixth and Dettman crossed eighth, to punch their tickets.

The Warriors finished third as a team, failing to qualify the whole group for state by just nine points.

Other Central runners finished outside the top 15, including Delaney Scherf in 19th, Taylor Moser in 23rd and Kaitlyn Wiley in 30th. One highlight was Coral Rork, who finished 32nd with a personal best time of 25:10.

“All of our runners came into this district meet knowing that it would be one of our most challenging courses of the season due to the hills, the competition and knowing what it would take to qualify for the state meet,” said coach Martha Bauder. “But all seven of our girls competed hard.”

On the boys side, out of 11 complete teams, the Warriors finished seventh. In a field of 85 runners, Gavin Holst was the top finisher for Central, in 17th place. Seniors Corey Weber and Brayden Finley, who finished 23rd and 35th, respectively, both had their best finish in a district meet race. Over the course of four years, Weber went from 98th place as a freshman to 23rd as a senior, while Finley went from 67th as a freshman to 35th as a senior. Also in the race, Storm Huinker ran a personal best to place 64th, and was under 23 minutes for the first time in his career, with a time of 22:52.

Dettman and Asche will now run in the state meet at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, in Fort Dodge.
