Central volleyball goes 1-1 in final week of the season

The Central volleyball team had an up and down final week of the regular season, defeating Postville in straight sets, then losing in straight sets against Turkey Valley. The Warriors finished the regular season with a 10-28 record, winning seven more games than last year.
That 10th win came Oct. 12 against the Pirates, as the Warriors won the match by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-23.
The offense totaled 28 assists, led by Elizabeth Royer with 16. Giorgia Baiguini added nine assists, while Chelsia Larson had two and Lexi Loan one. The Warriors also had 32 kills on 87 attempts, with 13 kill errors. Loan tallied eight kills, followed by Brandy Beatty with six. Gracie Cummer, Katelyn Scherf, Isabelle Groth and Alyson Feickert each had four.
The defense came away with one block by Groth and totaled 84 digs. Leading the way was Feickert with 20, followed by Alivia Keppler with 14, Larson with 13, Beatty with 12, Royer with nine, Loan with seven and Baiguini with four.
As for serving, the Warriors had 10 aces, with Larson hitting five. Baiguini made two, and Alexis Fettkether, Keppler and Loan each had one. The team was successful on 70 of 74 attempts and had a serve efficiency of 94.6 percent.
Unfortunately, it was a different story against the Trojans, who won all three sets, 25-14, 25-23 and 25-15.
The Central offense finished with 13 assists, led by Royer with seven, followed by Baiguini with six. The Warriors also had 17 kills on 77 attempts. Feickert had a team-high five kills, while Larson finished with four, Loan had three and Cummer and Groth each had two.
Defensively, the Warriors blocked well, finishing with six, including three apiece from Cummer and Larson. The team also totaled 57 digs, led by Feickert with 15. Loan and Royer finished with nine digs each, Keppler gathered eight, Beatty had five, Larson had four and Baiguini had three.
The Warriors served well, finishing with eight aces. Fettkether and Larson each hit three and Baiguini finished with two. The team made 52 of 55 serve attempts, earning a 94.5 percent efficiency.
The Warriors entered the postseason Oct. 18, playing in the Class 1A - Region 5 first round at 20-8 North Linn.
