Vera A. Wood, 89, of Bagley, passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, at Bluff Haven Care Center in Prairie du Chien. 

She was born March 26, 1932, in Glen Haven, the daughter of Lawrence and Catherine (Walz) Kuenster. Vera graduated from Platteville Teachers College and moved to Colorado Springs, where she worked at Camp Carson Post Headquarters. She married William Max Wood on April 14, 1952, and they later returned to the Bagley area where Vera and Max raised their family. She was a loving mother who later retired as a teacher’s aide from River Ridge High School after serving there 12 years. 

She is survived by her husband, Max; her children, Timothy (Terry), Michael (Terri), Kate (Leonard) Neises, William “Scott” (Doreen), Chad (Cathy), Lori (Jay) Bares and Bart (Cara); her sister, Patricia Breene; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Lonnie; along with her sisters, Mary Ellen and Kathleen.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Patch Grove, Rev. John Meinholz officiating, with a private inurnment in the Gockel Cemetery in Glen Haven. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crossing Rivers Hospice or a charity of your choice. 

The Garrity Funeral Home, of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
