Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend Gertrude “Tootie” Koecke went home to her heavenly father on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at the age of 102. She passed away at Prairie Maison, where she resided for the past eight years. Gert was a faithful woman who loved her lord, family, church and community.

Gert was born to William and Amelia (Rose) Lenz on Jan. 12, 1919. Gertrude attended Harris Ridge School. She was a caregiver her entire life beginning at an early age. She took on chores and jobs for the neighbor where she grew up. She married Harold Lippman and, to this union, her two sons were born. They were her greatest accomplishment. She later married Everett Koecke, the love of her life on July 19, 1966. She then gained another son and two daughters. They made their home in Prairie du Chien, where Gert worked for Dr. Dessloch at the General Hospital until it closed. At that time, she worked at the Prairie Convalescent Center until her retirement.

She is survived by her son, William (Betty) Lippman; stepson, Wayne (Jan) Koecke; stepdaughter, Janie Kaster; brother-in-law, Karl Mockrud; sister-in-law, Erla Lenz; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Dennis Lippman; stepdaughter, Georgia Thompson; brothers, Charlie, William, George and Dale Lenz; and sister, Delores Mockrud.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 8, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, Pastor Miranda Klosterboer officiating with burial in the Wauzeka Cemetery in Wauzeka.

At this time we wish to thank Prairie Maison for their wonderful care they provided for the last eight years. Gert always had a kind heart and a compassionate heart. She loved her family, friends, co-workers, and her caregivers. May she rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. The Garrity Funeral Home, of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
