River Ridge blanks SWS
River Ridge defeated visiting Seneca/Wauzeka-Steuben 39-0 in a nonconference football game Friday night.
Will Cooley of River Ridge scored on a 2-yard run in the first period to give the Timberwolves a 6-0 lead.
Cooley scored again on a 13-yard jaunt as River Ridge increased the margin to 12-0 early in the second quarter.
The Timberwolves had a 1-yard TD run by Cooley and the 2-point conversion was good as the Wolves went up 20-0.
Cooley broke several tackles and almost went down but regained his balance en route to a 65-yard touchdown run to give River Ridge a commanding 26-0 advantage in the second quarter.
Logan Drone went on a 23-yard TD run in the second period to boost the score to 32-0.
Brady Bunge recovered a fumble and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown and the extra point was good to give River Ridge a 39-0 lead at halftime.
The second half of the game was called off due to inclement weather.
River Ridge improved to 1-1 on the season and SWS dropped to 0-2.
River Ridge had 198 yards rushing and 134 passing. SWS had 21 yards rushing and 34 passing.
Cooley rushed 11 times for 137 yards and 4 TDs for River Ridge. Drone had 4 carries for 38 yards and a TD. Drone completed 5 of 7 passes for 112 yards. Cooley completed 1 of 1 passes for 22 yards. Braden Crubel caught 3 passes for 78 yards. Matthew Nies hauled in 1 pass for 44 yards.
Evan Payne rushed 7 times for 26 yards for the Blue-Golds. Anthony Hall gained 6 yards on 2 carries. Payne completed 3 of 5 passes for 34 yards. Brennan Wallin caught 2 passes for 25 yards. Lucious Cooley snared 1 pass for 9 yards.
River Ridge will next travel to Shullsburg to take on Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg on Sept. 3.
Seneca/Wauzeka-Steuben will travel to Ithaca on Sept. 3.
